Requesting an Application Fee Waiver
The application fee may be waived in cases of exceptional need. Students who apply using the Universities of Wisconsin Application should print the Application Fee Waiver Form and have their counselor/advisor submit it to the Office of Admissions and Recruitment. Students who apply using the Common Application may request a fee waiver while filling out their application. If the College Board or the ACT grant a student a fee waiver, we will accept it.
Online Recommendation Letters
We require one letter of recommendation written by someone who can attest to the student’s academic ability, such as a teacher, school counselor, advisor, or faculty member. Students who apply using the Universities of Wisconsin Application complete a form that will send this request to you with the required information from the student. If the applicant for which you are writing the recommendation used the Common Application, we encourage you to use that system to complete the recommendation.
Using Electronic Transcripts
We accept official electronic transcripts from secure transcript providers such as eScrip-Safe, National Student Clearinghouse, and other online vendors. High schools and colleges that take advantage of electronic transcript services do not need to send duplicate paper copies to us.
If the secure transcript vendor requires an email address to send a download link, they should use etranscripts@admissions.wisc.edu.
If using the Common Application to submit official documents for international students: Please submit all required academic documents for the application review as one submission through the “School Report” section. This should include any certified copies of external examination or board results certificates. For the “Final Report” section, please submit the final transcript along with any supplemental required materials (high school diploma, final board results, etc.) that have already been issued. If you do not add a required document to one of these submissions, please upload it as an “Optional Report.” Because official A-levels are issued in August, students will be responsible for sending us screenshots of their examination results and will need to bring their original results certificate to our office when they arrive for SOAR (Student Orientation Advising and Registration).
Please note that sending an email with a transcript attachment will not be accepted as official.
Requesting Materials
Counselors and advisors may request a pennant and publications be sent to their school through our online portal.
College Fair Invitations
In addition to our comprehensive campus visit program for prospective students, our admissions representatives travel extensively throughout the country, attending college fairs, making high school visits, and hosting regional receptions. Send invitations to your upcoming fairs to invite@admissions.wisc.edu.
Application Status Checks
Although counselors are unable to complete an online application status check for their students, students can use their Student Center portal to see if their application has been received, if any application materials are missing, and to view their admission decision.
Enrollment Statistics and Information
The Office of the Provost provides comprehensive data and analysis about the university. The most popular resources include the UW–Madison Data Digest, information about incoming first-year and transfer students, and information provided in the Voluntary System of Accountability Program.
Setting Up a Visit for Your Students
The Campus Visit Program is proud to showcase our university and expand your students’ education by facilitating campus visits for groups grades 6-12.
