I’m Cecilia, a freshman from Miami, Florida. I’m a bit of a foodie, so I love spending my free time exploring cafes and local food spots around Madison. I also enjoy going to Badger sports games whenever I can, soaking up the good energy and school spirit to brighten my days outside of academics.

My favorite Badger tradition is the annual snowball fight that occurs on Bascom Hill after the first big snow between the two sides of campus, Southeast and Lakeshore. For me, it feels like a special moment when students come together for a playful campus-wide battle, and it makes me feel nostalgic for the free-spiritedness of my childhood. It was also my first exposure to fun winter activities, like sledding.

As a Freshman, I would advise incoming baby Badgers, and my younger self, to give yourself some grace. Starting this new chapter of your life may be difficult to navigate, and it can feel extremely overwhelming. Recognize that there are so many resources to take advantage of at UW-Madison that can help you in all aspects of this journey.
