I am Mustafa, originally born in Afghanistan, raised in Chicago and now studying in my second year at UW-Madison. Outside of school, I love staying active by going to the gym, running, mountain climbing, and love to take care of myself by cooking delicious meals. I also enjoy doing spontaneous things with friends like going on trips, ice skating, exploring new food locations, etc.
My favorite tradition that we celebrate here would be attending the annual winter festival, Lily’s Classic. In this tradition, everyone gathers around the frozen lake, Mendota, and enjoys either the hockey tournament going on between some of the fraternities or just hanging out and having a good time. I love how we turn the dreading cold that Wisconsin can have into a great time.
One piece of advice that I would give my younger self and you guys is to understand that navigating this college thing can be really hard. But you need to know that you aren’t alone, and there are resources that you have access to in your school that you aren’t aware of, I wasn’t. I recommend that you go on any college field trips, information sessions, and especially talking to your counselors. These resources made the college process much easier once I learned about them.
